HANOI MUNICIPAL THEATRE |
|
|
The construction of the Hanoi Municipal
Theatre started in 1901, and lasted for 10 years until 1911.
It was the first opera house in city, and was carefully
constructed according to European standards. For several
years, the theatre was home to famous cultural and artistic
activities in Hanoi.
In following years, it was also the place where many
important political and revolutionary events took place. In
1945, thousands of Hanoi inhabitants gathered at the Grand
Theatre Square, now called the August Revolutionary Square,
after rising up against the French.
